Memorial Day

Our ward had a picnic to celebrate Memorial day and Brother Martinez 70th Birthday. He was so excited to be turning the big 7-O. He had told us about it back in November.

Luke went early and played softball with the men. He sometimes forgets that he isn’t as young as he once was and slid into home plate and scraped up his leg pretty good. He was SAFE so that is all that mattered to him. Now he is limping around and sore but still happy he didn’t get out.

We joined them at the park for the kids to play and for us to enjoy some GOOD food. Our ward is famous for being able to have a amazing meals and TONS of food.

Then it was off to the lake to enjoy playing with cousins. It was such a beautiful day the lake was full to capacity when we got there so we had to go to a friends house by the lake and they picked us up in the boat to take us back to the beach and picnic area. I thought the water would be really cold but it wasn’t too bad and felt good since it was so hot.

After the lake we headed out for ice cream. The kids were so cute looking into the freezer and seeing 20 different kids of ice cream. They looked, got a big smile and looked back like really I get to pick any of those. Micali went for Superman. She couldn’t get past the bright colors. Eli just wanted pink and the only pink one was Cherry Limeade and Abigail couldn’t make up her  mind. She just kept pointing out all of them. Since I figured I would be helping her out by the end I picked Mint chocolate chip for her. Here is their sweet faces while they were in their little heaven.

Micali finished hers in no time and asked for another one! She couldn’t believe when we told her one was enough.

Our cousins Emma and Jackson were so cute with their ice cream I had to add them in too!

Memorial Day Weekend

We had a lot of fun this Memorial Day Weekend. It has always been a celebration for school being over too but here in Michigan school doesn’t get out until June 6th so we have another week and a half.

The nice part was that Luke and Micali didn’t have school on Friday or Monday so that was a nice long weekend.

To celebrate our 8th anniversary—since I was in Kansas on our actual anniversary—we took the kids to stay for two nights at grandma and grandpa’s house. Then we spent the two days painting the house together. In all honesty it wasn’t quite as relaxing as our 7th anniversary in HAWAII but we really did have a lot of fun working together. We enjoy doing projects and I wanted to get most of the painting done before Luke leaves to Utah State for another summer of doctorate work.

This is a picture of my Mother’s Day message Luke left me with a color we were testing on the walls. We went through 5 sample colors in the kitchen before we found the perfect one. The colors changed so much once we had them on the walls.

I couldn’t wait to get rid of the yellow walls and ceiling.

I love this man. He makes any situation much more entertaining and enjoyable.IMG_3288

We got a lot done, slept in until 7:30 one morning and 8:30 the next. We are usually up by 6 so this really was sleeping in. On Friday night we decided to quit earlier than we planned because it was getting harder to see. We went out to eat dinner at 9 and got The Vow from the Redbox. I had thought somebody told me it was a good movie but we just kept sitting there waiting for it to get good and it never did. I had high hopes for it since I had convinced Luke to watch a girlie movie with me.

The kids came home around one Saturday and we still had to put a 2nd coat of paint on all the walls. The ceiling was the only thing we had finished. The kids did a great job playing together and watched a couple movies. Now the only thing left to do is the cutting in an inch or two at the top. I was hoping for crown moulding until I realized I would still have to paint. So I have my naptime project for the next few weeks or whole summer, who knows.
